When her journey began in 1969, Gail Weingast may not have had any inkling she would someday be a top radiologist with a 40-year career as a medical professional. After all, the beginning of her education came when she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish from Tufts University’s Jackson College. If she wasn’t considering medicine back them, something changed her mind soon after, because she attended Boston University’s School of Medicine and officially became Dr. Gail Weingast MD in 1976. In the 40-plus years since then, however, she has dedicated herself to the radiology profession and she has helped to heal thousands.

Following medical school, and about eight years of internships, residencies and other education that all doctors have to endure, Dr. Gail Weingast practiced in numerous hospitals in Colorado and New York, until she settled into her current position where she has been for more than 20 years. At William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich, Connecticut, she has created a radiology department considered one of the best in the region. Now, Dr. Gail Weingast is the Chief of Ultrasound and Breast Imaging and she has an admirable medical career to look back to.

Soon after she completed her medical school education at Boston University and several internships, residencies and fellowships at hospitals in the Denver are, Dr. Gail Weingast practiced at several other hospitals in Colorado and also in New York, until she settled into her current position in Connecticut. These days, Dr. Weingast is best known as a highly regarded radiology specialist at William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich, Connecticut, where she is the Chief of Ultrasound and Breast Imaging.

Dr. Gail Weingast has become an institution at Backus Hospital over her 20 years there, probably because she has been able to use her position to transform that department and the hospital at large a premiere medical facility. No doubt it has been her more than four decades of knowledge and experience that has given her the ability to do that. Her career path hasn’t always been a straight line; it even started with a Bachelor’s Degree in Spanish before she switched over to medicine a few years later. The rest is, of course, history. And it’s a good history.
